Is winter Blues Affecting You?

Winter is the time to enjoy snow, food and festivals. There is festivity in the air with Christmas and New Year’s around the corner. Children wait for snow and Santa so eagerly. But for some winter can be quite depressing. This is identified as winter blues. Many people suffer from SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder. But SAD is more associated with winter blues than any mood variation. It is not necessary that if you are feeling low or blue in winters then you are suffering from SAD but the chances are that your symptoms can turn into SAD. Winter is quite depressing for some people because the temperatures are low, the days are short and dark. Many people associate happiness with sunshine and because there is limited or no sunshine in winter’s people become quite gloomy. All they want to do is get confined in their home and eat all the time. Although this does not cure their state rather makes it worse with the guilt setting within. There are number of ways through which winter blues can be avoided.
It is very important to meet people and interact. If you are feeling low then you are advised to meet people who make you happy or who bring positivity around you. If you are staying alone then you can plan a leave and meet your near and dear ones in winters. You need to be happy and laugh and for this you can watch some good program on television or some good movie. If you smile or laugh then chances of winters affecting your mood is quite dim. You could also exercise to keep yourself healthy and happy. Exercise brings a feel good factor with it. If you exercise then you will feel good about yourself. The sunlight is very important for your body and mind. Whenever possible you should make the most of it. If you are working most of the time during the day then you can get up early in the morning. You should also light your house well. In dearth of light we feel gloomy. So there should be adequate arrangement of light in the house. Another way to overcome winter blue is with good diet. Do not eat food with high calorific value. You should eat healthy and balanced diet. It is very natural for the body to crave for carbohydrates in winters as the body needs energy. You should also take vitamin supplements if your body requires it. The bulky winter clothes also add to the misery. It is recommended that you find smart winter clothing. You not deprive yourself of beautiful winter clothes. You should also have a good night’s sleep to keep you active throughout the day. You should also use colour therapy to keep you happy. There are various colours that are used to enhance mood. You could do up your room in that colour. You could even decorate your house with beautiful flowers.
