If Christmas, birthdays and anniversary celebrations bring sadness and anxiety to your life instead of happiness, take heart. If you are generally exhausted without engaging yourself in too much physical activity, beware. If you are experiencing similar feelings described in the situations described, it is important for you to recognize that your suffering may be linked to SAD, also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder.

SAD, as many doctors would say, is a condition of the mind or mental state that significantly affects the physiological order and overall happiness of the person. Unfortunately, SAD has been identified as a contributing factor in many suicides for both youths and adults. Many people with SAD experience persistent feelings of sadness, and many also report feelings of depression, guilt, tiredness, exhaustion and desperation. With a low state of mental and physical status, several individuals suffering from SAD divert their guilt and feelings of sadness by craving starchy and sugar-filled foods leading to substantial weight gain. For this reason, many people suffering from SAD gain weight very quickly.

Unfortunately, SAD is considered to be one of the many psychological disorders without any medical resolution. SAD is also commonly known as the “Winter Blues,” mainly because it affects individuals during the winter season. While it is true that the winter season is only a brief part of the yearly seasonal cycle, those affected with SAD need more attention due to the seriousness of SAD’s effects on the mental condition.People affected with SAD are frequently misunderstood for their odd behaviors during winter months. However, medical findings prove that there is a dominant relation between lack of sunlight and mood disorders, which is why the short winter days increase the likelihood of SAD.

While medical research has not discovered a permanent treatment or medication to cure SAD, light therapy is the best known solution known so far. Light therapy is highly recommended for SAD, and additionally light therapy is simple and easy to conduct. The main light therapy product being used to combat the symptoms of SAD is a product known as sunbox light therapy. Sunbox Light therapy is basically a special light that works naturally with the body to uplift mood and increase energy. The sunbox lamps are portable and can be used in the home or even at the office. If you or someone you know is suffering from SAD, a light therapy sunbox can help and make a dramatic difference in quality of life.
